Your Cooking Common Questions Answered

As a hobby, cooking has exploded in popularity thanks to such networks as Food Network providing hours upon hours of cooking shows. Cooking is something found worldwide in every culture.

Careers based in the culinary arts are found in every city and town across the United States. The love of food has brought us together as something we all share in common.

What is an appropriate age to begin teaching children how to cook?

As soon as a child can learn simple commands, safety rules and understands how to grasp utensils, they can learn to cook. Experts agree that children should be no younger than nine when handling sharp utensils and should ALWAYS have adult supervision. Accidents can happen very quickly in the kitchen.

It has been proven time and time again that children learn through imitation. Buy your child a play cooking set. Let them "pretend" too cook their favorite dishes on using plastic play sets and a play stove. Before long they will develop a love that is similar to your own.

Are there certain ingredients that I should always keep on hand?

The standard staples of the kitchen vary according to what the chef cooks. The basic staples are; flour, sugar, salt, pepper, butter (or margarine), oil, eggs and milk.

The more experienced chef might keep a wider variety of spices and ingredients on hand at all times. If you are a beginner, buy what you need as you come across recipes. This will save you time and money.

What are some cooking classes I can take?

There are a wide variety of cooking classes available. Many communities offer cooking classes especially for beginners. There are also cake decorating, candy making and ethnic cooking classes available. If you do not know how to whip something together for dinner, chances are high that there is a cooking class that can teach it.

Where can I take cooking classes?

Great question! Many communities and universities that offer adult continuing education cooking 000007E8classes for the novice or amateur chef and there are also classes hosted on the internet.

If you are considering a career as a chef, there are many world renowned culinary arts academies that can teach you everything you need to know. The only problem might be lack of experience and the high cost of tuition to one of these prestigious academies.

There are alternatives to the higher priced classes and that is a culinary arts course at a local community college.

What is the best type of cookbook to buy if I'm a beginner cook?

The best type of cookbook for a beginner is one that has a front section devoted entirely too explaining different cooking terms, measurement conversions and adequate substitutions.

The recipes should be simple to prepare but not boring. A great tip when buying a beginner's cookbook is to find one that has a sturdy cover, good binding such as the type found in a three-ring binder, and pages that are not easily stained. Betty Crocker has an excellent cookbook that works well for beginners.

Successful Microwave Cooking Techniques

Microwave cooking is a convenience way to cook, however knowing the right technique makes you a better microwave chef.

Successful cooking with Microwave oven need to understand the followings points:

Moist, not fat - Choose recipes that are cooked by moisture - steaming, boiling, braising, blanching. Foods that require fat and oil for a change of flavor are not as successful, deep-frying is impossible at all.

Browning food - Foods do not brown readily in the microwave oven. You may find the following tips on browning useful.

1. Fat absorbs heat and if you remove foil covering fatty portions of a meat, these will crisp and brown lightly.
2. Baste with oil to give a better crisp to roast. Oil increase the temperature of the meat surface.
3. A browning dish, preheated, will brown food beautifully if you press food down, turning so that all surfaces make contact with the base of the dish.
4. Soy sauce, the ubiquitous flavourer of Chinese recipes, is an excellent browning agent.

Wok aroma - In traditionally stir-fried dishes, sauces are sprinkled round the side of the hot wok. In the microwave oven, we put in the sauce first, giving time for heat to be absorbed and hence release the aroma.

Small - The microwave oven is best therefore for family meals and when entertaining small groups.

Arrange foods - Whether cooking, defrosting or freezing, food should be arranged to take advantage of the principles of microwave cooking. Remember the followings:

1. Microwave activity is greater at the edges000006E2, less at the centre. Pieces of food should be placed at the edge of any container. If they are equal size, thicker portions should be placed at the edge or at corners of square containers where they will cook more quickly than the thinner portions in the centre. Cook large quantities of food evenly by stopping the cooking cycle halfway, and stirring so that food at edges exchange places with food in the centre.
2. Food cooks quicker in hot spots, so place the container or larger portions of meat in this place.
3. Single layer of food cook evenly. A large lump cooks at the edge first. So freeze in single layers and do not overlap food if you can help it.
4. Raise large portions of roast on a rack for more even distribution of heat. When meat I heated, fat melts to the bottom, and this area will absorb more heat.

Cover - Covering the food will prevent drying of some dishes. The most common cover is cling or plastic wrap. As pressure is build up within a completely enclosed container, however, it is necessary to cover loosely, or leave a gap through which steam my escape.

Shielding food - These part must be shielded with foil to prevent overcooking and drying out. Ensure that foil does not touch the sides of the oven.

Food skin - Food that has a skin or membrane such as liver, tomato and fish, if they are to be left whole, should be pierce or slit, to leave a steam vent.

Cooking on a Budget

Cooking can be such a daunting task for any one whose heart isn't set to it. They are saying that there are folk who aren't born for the art of cooking but just for the art of tasting. However, there are certain eventualities in life that would leave you with no choice. If you're a student and staying remotely from your house, doing your own meal planning and food budgeting for the first time, then the following pointers might provide advantage to you in making cooking a delightful experience as precise as a cooking laser thermometer.

Correctly balance both your diet and money. Avoid being tempted to buy things that you don't actually eat just because they're on bargain. The freezer is useful for stocking and saving meals or part meals that you get in bulk. Fresh food guarantees you more value, so go visit the flea market or local greengrocer or butcher instead of the supermarket.

Carbohydrates are energy foods and will keep you feeling satisfied for much longer as the day progresses, thus making you avoid between snacks or junks. Great sources for your protein needs are baked beans, fish, chicken and eggs, so get a load of them. Pulses are great possibilities for vegans or people who are not fond of eating meat. Milk is widely called the best source of protein as well, so even a glass a day guarantees a healthy day for you. Of course fruit and vegetables form part of a well-balanced diet, so five portions a day will do it.

A rule of cleanliness is to bathe up after eating. It might be that bombsite kitchen is present in each student home, but it is unhygienic and will be source of unwanted pathogen and bacteria. Make an improvised book stand to swiftly have your recipe while cooking. Although you can get a lot online recipes, it's a bit of a hassle to go to and fro your personal computer simply to follow the recipes!

Cookwares are your tools in cooking, so be sure to use the suitable size pan or pot to suit your menu. If you are a first time cook, why not exploit a starter pack to help you get moving in the kitchen? The least spoken tool is the laser thermometer.

Cooking is great fun if you know how to run the kitchen smartly. Just begin with simple recipes for pasta and rice dishes, and you will be revved up enjoying your every meal preparation. Cooking can be an art, so go ahead and eat your own way to a healthy healthy diet and give your buddies as well the loudest belch they can come up with after eating your personally prepared meals!

Kelly has been writing for many years. Come visit her newest site over at http://laserthermometer.org/ which helps people who love cooking find a great laser thermometer and information they are looking for when doing temperature gauging.

Using 2006 Celebrity Hairstyle Pictures In 2007

2006 celebrity hairstyle pictures can tell us a lot about the main features of hair fashion for that year. Just a look at a website like hairstyleswatch.com shows that there are some great examples that you can learn from. If you want to know what is hot and what's not in hair this year then give it a whirl. Just a taster of 2006 celebrity hairstyle pictures will teach you something about what's going on.

Long Styles seen in 2006 celebrity hairstyle pictures

Just take a look at Diora Bird’s hair and you’ll see one of the things that 2006 celebrity hairstyle pictures shows is the importance of a good cut. If you have long hair and you want it to be one length, with the exception of the sides that are framing the face and neck, then you can’t beat a good cut. Some straightening has been used in this style, either with a flat iron or custom made straighteners, along the front however, is blown dry towards the centre giving the cut plenty of movement.

Celebrity Variety

Just a look over the 2006 celebrity hairstyle pictures of Reece Witherspoon demonstrate just how many different styles can be developed from one basic cut and style. The styles work particularly well on medium to long hair. Over the course of the year you’ll see that Reece is slowly moving away from the golden blonde look to a style with several different shades ranging from mid blonde to light brown. While the press might find the use of the same basic style ‘stuck’ it is quite clear that Reese finds a number of ways to wear it. Loose curls framing her face is achieved with large heated rollers – or simply pin it back with some trailing curls, or pinned up at the top and rolled and flicked at the bottom. 2006 celebrity hairstyle pictures can teach you a lot about what can be done with one basic style and the different looks that can be achieved.

Layered Looks

If you like the layered look then there is plenty to choose among the 2006 celebrity hairstyle pictures, in fact you can learn just how versatile a layered haircut can be. Maria Menounos, Kelly Carlson and even veteran actress Kathleen Turner all sport layered hairstyles in the 2006 celebrity hairstyle pictures. Turner’s hair is permed and then layered at the bottom for ease of styling and a carefree look. Kelly Carlson’s hair is short, full of layers and swept back off the forehead, but be careful not everyone can wear this style. Maria Menounos’ look is achieved with the use of velcro rollers. The style is best achieved by taking out the rollers while the hair is still damp, then using a little styling gel pull into place by finger combing.

There are websites available these days that you can use to upload your photo and see what hairstyles will look best on you! This helps takes the guesswork out of using 2006 celebrity hairstyle pictures as a guide for your next hairstyle!

HDTV CableCard

Look thorough the specifications list of many of the current crop of HDTVs and you will see the term CableCard listed on many of them, but what is HDTV CableCard?

Quite simply, it's a very elegant method of receiving HDTV from a cable provider.
Instead of supplying you with a set-top box to receive and decode its HDTV
transmission, the cable supplier gives you an HDTV CableCard which simply slots
into your TV. The card decodes the channels that your subscription allows your
receiver or integrated HDTV does the rest.

The advantage is that an HDTV CableCard takes up much less room than a set-top
box, doesn't need its own power supply, and reduces the number of cables you
need for cable HDTV. Another advantage is that if you move house and have to
switch providers, you don't need to learn how to use a brand new set-top box. You
just relinquish your existing card and get a new one from your new provider,
everything else stays the same.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of HDTV CableCard is in the picture quality. Cable
companies are not known for the high quality of the components they put into set-
top boxes. Most consumers can't tell the difference between a decent picture and a
very good one. So cable companies tend to go for features rather than quality. With
CableCard your equipment - the HDTV tuner or integrated HDTV does the scaling
and display, so you choose how good the image quality is. If it matters to you, you
can buy a good tuner or integrated TV and benefit from better scaling and display.

The disadvantage of HDTv CableCard is that it is currently one-way, so cable
services which requ00000892ire interaction, such as pay-per-view, on-demand services,
sports season tickets and program guides don't work. For those you'll still need a
set-top box.

A two-way version of CableCard is currently in development.

HDTV Tuners

HDTV tuners are specially planned devices which receive and output HDTV signals. The HDTV (high definition television) is the latest addition in DTV. These transmit programs in a widescreen format with high resolution pictures and surround sounds. Thus, they provide ambience and feel of theaters in homes.

The HDTV tuners are also known as a decoders, receivers, and set-top boxes. A HDTV tuner will receive signal in the form of ATSC formats. The received signals are decoded in HDTV signal before displaying it on your television screen. The picture quality of HDTV will range from 720p to 1080i with a ratio of 16:9. Generally, the HDTV tuners will receive all the HDTV signals including cable, satellite, OTA (over-the-air) broadcasts, and digital- VHS recordings.

Commonly, the HDTV tuners can be availed as an external box or come integrated with HDTV sets or HDTV receivers. The external HDTV tuners are usually connected between the antenna and the television. The television sets or receivers encompassed with HDTV tuners will not require external HDTV tuners to receive standard cable channels. For analog televisions and digital televisions without inbuilt HDTV tuners, the external HDTV tuner is the ideal way to enjoy the benefits of HDTV signals.

HDTV tuners are available in different price levels. On an average, the cost of the HDTV tuner will range from $100 to $400. The price will fluctuate from one brand to another.

Sharp, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Thomson, and Samsung are some of the leading brands.

HDTV tuners can be availed from local dealers or online stores. An online store is the best source to avail better options in HDTV tuners. crutchfield.com, store.snapstream00000890.com, and digitalconnection.com are some of the leading online stores to shop for HDTV tuners.

To suit different needs, HDTV tuners come combined with exclusive features. These include program guide (EPG) display for each channel, self-guided setup, interactive program guides, and more. The HDTV tuners with hard drives are capable of recording standard digital TV and HDTV programs. With advance features, an HDTV tuner will give you the ambience of a theater at home.

Product Review - Panasonic EP3222 Shiatsu Massage Chair

We will focus on the EP-3222 massage chair lounger by Panasonic. The EP3222 is part of the Real Pro Elite series of massage chairs. This massage lounger is one of the luxury models produced by Panasonic. It includes some advanced technology features such as a body scan to customize the massage for each individual user. We will take a look at some of these advanced features and functions. We will also touch on the warranty and provide you our insights into the EP-3222 massage chair recliner.

One of the long term concerns when purchasing a product such as a massage chair is the warranty coverage. The warranty is your long term protection from problems due to factory defects and workmanship. Although top brands such as Panasonic do a great job making these chairs, problems do occur. Make sure you get adequate warranty coverage on any massage chair you are thinking of getting.

The EP-3222 Real Pro Elite comes with warranty coverage from Panasonic. With this chair you get 3 years parts and 1 year labor on this chair. This coverage is below what other manufacturers give you. Most manufacturers provide in home technician service for at least 90 days and in some cases for up to 1 year. Panasonic does allow you to purchase an extended warranty at additional cost.

One of the advanced features of this massage recliner is the body scan technology. When you sit in the chair and start the program, the chair will perform a scan of your back. The chair actually maps your back and locates your individual acupressure points. It memorizes them and then prioritizes the most important. The data is then fed into the software program and the massage is customized for your body.

Another innovative feature of the EP3222 is the floating massage mechanism. The floating massage mechanism is patterned after the hand movements of a master masseuse. The floating mechanism consists of 2 to 4 firm rubber massage heads. These massage heads can very accurately simulate certain massage movements like pressing with the heal of the hand, stroking with the palm of the hand, thumb-like kneading and thumb-like pressure.

There is no shortage of massage techniques with this massage recliner. Panasonic equips this chair with 11 basic massage modes, 6 automatic programs and memory capability to store your favorite massages. Some of the more important massage techniques include Swedish, Kneading, Compression, Tapping, Shiatsu and Rolling. These massage techniques are effective to relieve aches, relax muscles, increase energy flow and increase blood flow.

This is a full body massage chair and comes with a lower body air massage system. The air massage system comes with 33 airbags that provide a soothing compression style massage. The airbags are inflated which provide a firm squeeze on your buttocks, thighs, calves and feet. You can vary the level of air pressure to find the perfect compression level to provide relief.

The remote control has large format buttons for each of the automatic programs. Just touch the button and the automatic massage starts which will run the entire chair. There are buttons to adjust the chair back and leg ottoman with automatic controls. You can also store or memorize certain massage programs. This is great for setting up a given massage for you that you can later recall on demand. Panasonic also includes a voice guidance system. The voice guidance system can be activated to walk you through the steps of using the remote control.

Other advanced features include a stretch function for the lower body. When this function is activated, the leg ottoman will raise horizontal. The airbags will activate to hold the feet. The leg ottoman will begin to lower slowly. This stretches the leg, knee and hip to relieve tension from stiff muscles. This also helps increase your flexibility and range of motion.

If you have been looking for a high end massage chair, the EP-3222 comes with an arsenal of massage functions. The massage techniques are highly engineered and provide effective relief. We do recommend you consider an extended warranty as your long term insurance policy. This is a solid massage recliner built by a company making chairs for many years. If you get the opportunity, try the EP-3222 Real Pro Elite massage recliner.

The New Apple iPod with Video Playback, You Can't Beat this mp3 Player

Apple has done it again. Not even two months after they revolutionized the mp3 player market with the iPod nano, and changed the way we think about flash mp3 players, theyve done it again with the new iPod with video playback.

This new mp3 player is THE must have player for this holiday shopping season.

In With the New

With this player Apple has added a dual color option, so if white just isnt for you, the iPod Video also comes in a sleek black color. The new design is also super thin, coming in at a full 50% thinner than the original iPod. And of course, to get full function out of the picture viewing and video playing capabilities, the iPod video comes with a new and improved 2.5 inch color screen, 0.5 inches larger than previous models. The new LCD screen is also covered by a hard clear resin, instead of the standard plastic cover. This will protect the screen from scratches and provide a clearer picture view.

The Sizes

With 30GB and 60GB file capacities you can store your entire music collection and have plenty of room to spare! Store all your pictures, download TV shows straight from iTunes and watch them on your commute. With this player youll never be wishing you just had some more space for your files.

The iPod Gold Standard

Remember, this is an iPod first and foremost. So the picture is superb. The sound is excellent, and has even been improved slightly in this new generation. The navigation is easy and intuitive with the amazing clickwheel. And the organization control is unmatched. Plus you have all the regular extras like calendar, organizer, games, alarm, a newly added lap timer, photo slideshows, and more.

Support for Video Playback

Apple hasnt just added video capabilities to their player and left it at that. Theyve incorporated new video downloading services into their iTunes store. Download music videos straight to your iPod, or even last weeks episodes of Lost or Desperate Housewives. Hook the iPod up to your TV and play the video files on a larger screen. The transfer quality is even pretty good. Videophiles might want more, but for most of us the display will be just fine. The player even boasts a much improved 20 hour battery life for the 60GB version(15 hours for the 30GB).

Price and Accessories

Sure iPods are more expensive than other mp3 players. But the new 30GB iPod can be purchased for the same price the old 20GB iPod used to be sold for. And this player comes with video and photo support! This is a huge step forward for Apple in making the best mp3 players more accessible to most of us. The only noticeable drawbacks of this player are the lack of some of the usual accessories that come standard with iPods, including the need to purchase an extra AV cable to hook the player up to your television. But these drawbacks are minimal when compared to all the great advancements of this player.

Conclusion

The days when mp3 players only played music files are a thing of the past. The consumer has spoken, and we want our players to not only PLAY music, but to STORE ALL our music. But this isnt enough either. We want to store and listen to audio books. Store and view our photo albums, and now we want to be able to watch videos. Be it music videos, TV shows, or movies. We want it all, and Apple has delivered. The new Apple iPod video is a must have for anyone in the market for a new mp3 player, and will make an excellent present this holiday season. But if youre looking for something a little smaller and cheaper, the iPod nano may be a great alternative. Tiny and sleek, this player is great for working out or smaller music collections, for those who want the signature iPod quality.

HDTV DVRs - Changing the Way You Watch TV

The new HDTV technology is amazing, and has vastly improved the appearance of our favorite TV shows and movies. But, there is still one small problem: much of the stuff that's on TV is still awful! A stupid sit-com will insult your intelligence in high-def just as easily as it will in standard def, if not more. This is where DVRs come in.

A DVR is a digital video recorder, and is also known as a personal video recorder, or PVR. Its basic function is the same as an old VCR, to record content from broadcast TV. But the DVR is much more than a VCR. Rather than a glorified tape recorder, it is a machine that can cut the fat from your media diet and add hours of free time to your busy week, a few minutes at a time, by making the TV watching experience more efficient. And the DVR is always recording what you are watching, so you'll be able to pause a live broadcast as if it were a recording, then come back to it later without missing a thing.

Regular DVRs have been around since about 1999, but in the past few years they have had to be modified to handle high-def content. A modern HD-DVR (High-Definition DVR) has a hard drive bigger than the one in your desktop computer and uses it to store up to 35 hours of HD content, or 300 hours of standard content. And the new HD-DVRs have improved in other areas, too. The TiVo Series 3, for example, can upscale standard definition content to give it better quality, and can record two channels at the same time while you watch a third.

The easiest way to get an HD-DVR is by leasing one from your cable company, for about $6-$10 a month. Most people who do this, though, complain about the small amount of storage (8-10 hours of HD content) and the user-unfriendliness of the typical hardware they get. The best solution to this problem right now is the TiVo Series 3 HD-DVR, which costs about $600 but is vastly superior to the typical cable company boxes in transmission quality, storage, and ease of use.

The positive effects of using a DVR are huge. They can easily be programmed to record shows of interest, even if you aren't aware that they exist: for example, the TiVo can be set to record any movie, on any channel, that has John Wayne in it. No more mindless channel-surfing. And of course, the DVR can be used to skip over commercials, which can eliminate several hours of wasted time per week.

This effect is so significant that 70 percent of TV advertisers, in a recent survey, said that DVR proliferation will "reduce or destroy" the effectiveness of 30 second spots. And about a quarter of advertisers said they would respond by reducing the amount of money spent on TV ads and focusing their energy elsewhere. With a Blu-Ray DVD player and an HD-DVR connected to your HDTV, you can finally fight the good fight against the tyranny of mindless TV ads.

The Expert Digital Camera Buying Guide Book

You have a lot of choices if you want to buy a digital camera, just like you do with computers, laptops or printers. All manufacturers offer a wide range of different models, starting with the basic ones, which let you just point and shoot, and ending with the professional cameras. There are a number of things you should take into consideration when buying one, and they're below.

Digital Camera Cost

If you wanted a cheap camera in the past, you could only get something with weak quality optics. This isn't the case anymore. You can spend as little as $149 and get better quality than people got in the past when they bought $700 cameras. Depending on what you need, you can end up paying $10,000 for a professional camera. In most cases, however, $500 will buy you something very good.

Megapixels

In the not so distant past, people thought that a camera with three megapixels was top of the line. A few years later, and even average cameras can have 7-8 megapixels. This kind of size and quality lets you crop a photo much easier or print them and they would look great.

LCD Display

You might not consider the LCD screen as being that important, but it is. You can do good photos on a 2 inch LCD, but a 3 inch will work even better. They allow you to see immediately if the photo is good or not.

Shooting Modes

Check the camera for the shooting modes that it offers. Some will only have presets, other will offer manual shooting as well. The cheap ones will be more basic, which is fine if you're an amateur.

The Storage Medium

The problem here is that manufacturers don't stick to a single type of storage card. Check the specs of the camera, and see what type of card it can accept. This way if you already have a certain type of storage card, you can make sure that the digital camera accepts it.

After You Buy A Digital Camera

After you bought the digital camera, play with it for a bit, learn what it can do and practice taking better photos. It's a gadget like any other, and it can take a bit of time learning how to take the best photos you can. But, once you learn how to use it, the photos will be great and admired by everyone.

The Product Classics

I'm sure like me there were many people who purchased a mini disk player only a few years ago only to find the market flooded with mp3 players only a few months later and after being burned once, parting with your hard earned cash the next time round is certainly a more revised process.

I was slow to integrate into the mp3 world but by 2004 my mini disk certainly felt dated, Now its practically an antique.

Only a few products have the long term appeal factor, the iPod Classic defies the fact that these days with the world of gadgets and gizmos you only have to look away for a minute and you've been left behind in a new wave of technological advances and its really hard to pick items that will have long term appeal and be as useful tomorrow as they are today..

Well the good news is there are some products available like the iPod classic 120gb that really do have that longevity factor and give bang to your buck l and I believe as product designers progress the long term appeal of products will be paramount and in fact some companies have already started the ball rolling.

Now they are much more inclined to release products like the iPod Classic a well crafted mp3 player that can not only hold 30,000 Mp3 songs but also your movies, photos as well now I'm not saying this product will be around for ever but with the ability to carry around that many Films, photos or audio I can't see myself having to upgrade any time soon.

Aerial Photography Tips

Aerial photography is a valuable commercial skill that can greatly increase the income of many working photographers. The field of aerial photography can cover many different types of work, including real estate photography, government projects to document construction or environmental issues, paparazzi coverage, court case evidence, in addition to general artistic images taken from aloft.

Getting started in aerial photography. To get started in aerial photography, it is not as difficult as it may initially seem. In most cases, having access to an aircraft of some sort is required. However, there are literally thousands of pilots that are willing to charter a flight for you to accomplish your work. Check with your regional or local airport about chartering a flight for photography. Let them know what and where you are interested in photographing, and they should be able point you in the right direction. Based on my experience, be prepared to pay $100-$300 per hour chartering a fixed wing aircraft, depending on your area and the type of aircraft available. For helicopter rentals, look to pay about 30% more.

Best time of day to take aerial photographs. As with most types of outdoor photography, early morning and late afternoon time frames will yield the most pleasing photographs. It is at this time that the sun's rays produce warmer colors and longer shadows which produce more brilliant colors and beautiful shadows. The longer shadows associated with this time frame add depth to your photographs, by better defining the contours of land or structures.

However, selecting a time of day is also dependent on the type of photography you are trying to capture. During the middle of the day, the lighting is flat which may be better suited to your specific needs, i.e., documenting a construction project, or commercial real estate. Understanding the goals of your photographic mission will greatly impact when you elect to charter a flight.

Best equipment for aerial photography. Selecting the appropriate equipment for aerial photography is a major consideration. Before making any photographic equipment decisions, you must first define how the photos will be used. In most cases, aerial photos will be used for larger prints. Even if you are only shooting images for newspaper or tabloid reproduction, you will want to capture the images in as large a file size or negative size as possible. If you are shooting film, I would suggest no format under 2 1/4″ x 2 1/4″. If you want to shoot film and don't have a larger format camera, borrow or lease one before you schedule the flight. For digital photographers, I would recommend using the largest file size available with your model camera. By not capturing the images in the highest resolution possible, you have greatly diminished the ability for additional uses of these photographs.

Determining the optimal focal length to use, will be influenced with the type of aircraft you select, the subject matter you are documenting, and how close you are able to get to your subject. From personal experience, I most often use the equivalent of a 35mm-50mm lens for the 35mm camera format. You will want to be cautious using a telephoto lens due to the vibration of the aircraft.

Best exposure for aerial photography. In general, I recommend using a shutter speed of 1/500 -1/1000. This shutter speed range is sufficient to stop most action from a moving aircraft and to minimize aircraft vibration. While photographing from 1000 feet or higher, the subject will not be moving as quickly as you think. Choosing the maximum shutter speed, such as 1/2000 or higher, basically robs you of depth of field since you need to open up the lens more to compensate for the higher speed. On the subject of aperture setting, you will want to be in the f/5.6-f/11 range for most subjects. For those familiar with hyperfocal distances, since the closest subject in your photograph will be greater than 1000 feet, depth of field is not a main concern. Keep in mind the middle of your aperture range for a particular lens produces the sharpest images.

Conclusion. Aerial photography produces a view of the world that very few can experience. Whether you are taking aerial photographs as a career or just as a hobbie, the joys of aerial photography are countless!

An Introduction To Home Remodeling Software

Thanks to the personal computer and inexpensive home remodeling software what used to be an expensive time consuming task that often involved a professional to create blueprints or technical drawings can now be done easily by anyone in the comfort of their own home. Did I mention that its a lot of fun too?

Home remodeling software can be found wherever computer software is sold and is very reasonably priced. You can sometimes get a basic package free at Comp USA when they have an in-store 100% rebate promotion so check any flyers you might get in your paper or the mail and you could save yourself some money.

Using a remodeling software package is the ultimate in power and flexibility as any changes can be made instantly with a click of the mouse and with a wide range of products to choose from there will be a version that will be just what you need to get your remodeling project started.

Common features of remodeling software include the ability to do a virtual walkthrough, 2D and 3D views of your project and cost/budget estimators. The ability to drag and drop items is also standard and allows you to easily rearrange furniture in a room or move a door or window.

You can also count on having professionally designed examples you can use as is or modify to suit your needs. Some will even print out a list of materials required to complete the project and most have video tutorials to help you not only learn how to use the software but also teach you basic design skills.

There are several categories of home remodeling software available today with some packages bundling everything together into a total home design package:

Home Architect/Floor Plan

These packages will allow you to create a simple remodeling plan or even an entire new house from scratch. Using 2D and 3D views you are able to look at your plan from any angle and even zoom in and out. The software is so detailed that you can choose from thousands of design elements like windows, doors, cabinets and countertops. If it can be found in a house chances are a package like this will have it as an option. This package is ideal for entire home building or remodeling projects.

Interior Design

With an interior design package you can see how different wallpaper or paint will look in a room or how different countertops can change the look of your kitchen. You can move furniture around easily and view your rooms from any angle or height. Some remodeling software will also let you simulate sunlight coming through windows so you can see the effect it will have on a room.

These packages are typically filled with brand name furniture and appliances so you can see exactly how a particular model will look in your home. They often include carpet samples, fabric swatches and window treatments that can be changed by simply dragging and dropping. You can literally repaint a room in seconds to any color you want and quickly change it back again if you desire.

Often video tutorials will give you super ideas on how to coordinate colors and pick complimentary furnishings for a room for a professionally designed look.

Landscaping & Garden

Starting from professionally designed landscapes and gardens templates you can add things like fences, bird feeders, benches and statues. You can choose from thousands of trees, shrubs and plants and place them wherever you want and even include sprinkler systems.

Many styles like Japanese or water gardens are included to stimulate your creative juices and some landscaping software will even simulate seasonal changes and plant growth so you can see how your yard or garden would look 5 years from now in the fall.

Specialty packages like Deck or Kitchen and Bath design

With deck design software you can plan your dream deck using popular designs or create your own. Choose from a variety of deck materials and building styles and even place deck furniture on your virtual deck to see how it will look once its built. Some packages will print out a shopping list detailing the amount of lumber and hardware required to build the deck.

Like other home design or remodeling packages but geared for a specific room like a kitchen or bath these packages usually have many more options available than the general home based packages. You will have access to every possible kitchen appliance, cabinet, countertop, sink, shower, bathtub, etc. along with wall and floor coverings and lighting fixtures.

Any one of these types of home remodeling software packages will do a good job for you and can be used over and over again as you dream up new projects for your home. If you are planning on a specific room project you might want to consider a package designed for that room type (like a kitchen) but if you think you will have future remodeling projects spending a little extra for a home remodeling package might be worth it. At the very least you can have fun planning your dream house with the home version.

Cherokee Medical Scrubs - Are They Really That Comfortable?

Are those clothes really that comfortable? That's the question given to the nurse helping in the operating room. Her answer of course was that they really were extremely comfortable. This particular brand, Cherokee medical scrubs, is a very popular brand and is available in a variety of colors. That's a fairly common answer to that very question no matter who you ask in the medical profession.

It doesn't matter much if the scrubs are a brand name such as Barco scrubs or if they are a just cheap nursing scrubs. Scrubs are some of the most comfortable clothes that you can wear in public. Some are as close to pajamas as anything out there. You will often see people out and about shopping or dining in a pair of hospital scrubs. It is usually assumed they came right from work and didn't have time to change - but you never know. They could just be wearing them for comfort. There are actually scrub like clothes now that are also popular. However, they're not exactly scrubs but do seem to have the same look and feel as traditional scrubs.

If you are old enough to remember the time when it was cool to have a pair of green scrubs then you probably understand the sentiment that scrubs have as a unique fashion statement. Of course, now you can get scrubs that are extremely comfortable and come in a variety of colors and shapes but that doesn't matter. Scrubs are still some of the most comfortable clothing that you could ever own.

If you want the best scrubs go to Scrubs & Beyond. You'll be able to get both Cherokee medical scrubs or Barco scrubs at this site for the best price. Of course you can also get a pair of cheap nursing scrubs if you'd like.

3D Models For Use in Geological Modeling

Geological modeling serves the purpose of creating 3D models of sections of the earths crust. These 3D models are unique as they can be created with different types of simulations of rocks, even the types of cells within the rocks. 3D models allow seismologists to predict certain events within the crust of the earth from shifting plates to eroding areas of the crust, or new growth within certain areas.

The grid surfaces within the programs are created with diverse polygons representing different structures and types of surfaces. These geological models are created using polygonal modeling using a meshed shell to create a surface that has been triangulated for the specific area.

3D geological modeling incorporates many other aspects of the field, including; diagenesis, structural geology, paleoclimatology and sedimentology.

Oil and Gas industries use these models to determine how the ground will react when the drills are inserted. These models are used to plan for any disturbances that may occur, as well as any weak points within the crust that could cause difficulty. If an accident were to occur, the 3D model allows the engineers to determine a plan of action for a variety of outcomes that may occur.

3D geological models are also used to complete valuable calculations for use in geostatistics. Many times, geologists are unable to calculate what is within the rock or within the crust at certain areas and therefore it is important to have software that can calculate these variables. This data is not available on regular grids and therefore must be estimated in the most effective manner.

Many popular software systems have been developed to create these 3D geologic 3D models; Roxar, Paradigm and Jewelsuite are only a sample of the programs available. These powerful software systems are able to display and calculate parameters required for many professionals involved in Earth Sciences.

Red Lights on Your XBox?

What does it mean when your XBox has Three Flashing Red Lights instead of the normal Green Ones?

Three flashing red lights appear when an Xbox experiences a general hardware failure. These Red Lights are known as the Red Ring of Death to most gamers.

Before this occurs you may have warning signs, like the screen freezing up with strange graphics, or the sound being replaced by a static noise. The console may also say that the disk is unreadable. These signs become more and more frequent, until the hardware failure occurs.

What are Four Red Lights?

Four Red lights are a much more welcome sight, as they appear when the console doesn't detect the AV cable as being plugged in. Simply make sure it is plugged in correctly.

Why did my XBox get the Red Ring of Death?

The XBox was originally designed to be slim. Because of this, there is not enough space for the components to get enough air flow and keep cool. The XBox problem occurs therefore due to overheating.

Can I Prevent this from happening to me?

You may not be able to prevent it from happening, but keeping your XBox cool may help. Make sure it has enough air flow around it when playing, and don't put it on a carpet. If you start seeing any of the warning signs, try not to play for extended periods.

What has Microsoft done about it?

Microsoft claimed in July 2007, to have resolved many issues with the design.Xbox 360 consoles based on the "Falcon" motherboard feature a different CPU which reduces heat and is more reliable than previous models. Failure rates of the "Falcon" motherboard are supposed to be about 10%.

What do I do once my XBox has the Red Ring of Death?

You can either send it in to Microsoft for free (if you are in the 3 year warranty period), or you can fix it yourself. Sending it to Microsoft will take between 3 weeks to 6 weeks including postage time, and you may not get your own console back, but possibly another reconditioned, or repaired console. It also could happen again, which would mean repeating the whole process again.

Should you wish to, you can use the option of repairing it yourself. Have a look at a Repair Guide. Should you repair it yourself, you will probably void your warranty, but at least if it happens again, you will be able to fix it yourself and not have to send it away again.

Buying Guide to Graphics Cards Contents

The is a vital performance component of your computer, particularly if you play 3D games, or work with graphics and video content. The graphics card sits in an expansion card slot in your PC and it is specifically designed to process image data and output it to your monitor, enabling you to see it. A graphics card works by calculating how images appear, particularly 3D images, and renders them to the screen. 3D images and video images take a lot of processing capacity, and many graphics processors are complex, require fans to cool them and need direct power supply. The graphics card consists of a graphics processor, a memory chip for graphics operations, and a RAMDAC for display output. It may also include video capture, TV output and SLI and other functions. You can find the graphics card that suits you by comparing specification between brands and vendors on Myshopping.com.au

At Myshopping.com.au you can compare a great range of appliances, and assess them according to their specifications, brands, prices and vendors.

What are your needs?

The first decision you need to make is whether you need a graphics card for handling 3D images or whether you are simply requiring 2D image rendering. For 2D requirements, you need only a low-cost solution. In many cases, an integrated graphics solution will suffice for 2D applications.

However with 3D graphics, the performance of the graphics card will impact directly on the frame rate and image quality of 3D programs and games. The differences between the low and high-end cards can be substantial, both in cost and performance.

Rendering 3D graphics is like lighting a stage, both the geometry of the shapes in question and the lighting of it need to be taken into account. The geometry of an image calculates the parts of an object that can and can't be seen, the position of the eye and its perspective. The lighting is a calculation of the direction of the light sources, their intensities and the respective shadows that occur. The second part to presenting a 3D image is the rendering of colours and textures to the surfaces of the objects, and modifying them according to light and other factors.

Most modern graphics cards include a small microchip called the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), which are provide the algorithms and memory to process complex images. They reduce the workload of the main CPU, and provide faster processing. Different graphics cards have different capabilities in terms of processing power. They can render and refresh images up to 60 or more times per second, calculate shadows quickly, create image depth by rendering distant objects at low resolution, modify surface textures fluidly and eliminate pixelation.

What Specifications to Consider

Processor clock speed

This impacts on the rendering capability of the GRU. The clock speed itself is not the critical factor. Rather it is the per-clock performance of the graphics processor, which is indicated by the number of pixels it can process per clock cycle.

Memory size

This is the memory capacity that is used exclusively for graphics operations, and can be as much as 512MB. The more demanding your graphics applications are, the better you will be served with more memory on your graphics card.

One thing that can slow down 3D graphics performance is the speed at which the computer delivers information to the graphics processor. A higher bandwidth means a faster data transfer, resulting in faster rendering speeds.

Shader model

DirectX Shader Models allows developers control over the appearance of an image as it is rendered on screen, introducing visual effects like multi-layered shadows, reflection and fog.

Fill rate

This is the speed at an image can be rendered or "painted". This rate is specified in texels per second, the number of 3D pixels that can be painted per second. A texel is a pixel with depth (3D). The fill rate comes from the combined performance of the clock speed of the processor and the number of pixels it can process per clock cycle, and will tell you how quickly an image can be fully rendered on screen.

Vertices/triangles

Graphics chips don't work on curves, rather they process flat surfaces. A curve is created by multiple flat planes arranged to look like a curve. 3D objects are created with multiple triangular surfaces, sometimes hundreds or even thousands, tessellated to represent the curves and angles of the real world. 3D artists are concerned with the number of polygons required to form a shape. There are two different types of specification: vertices per second (I.e., angles the triangles), and triangles per second. To compare one measure with the other, you have to take into account the fact that adjacent triangles share vertices.

Anti-aliasing

A technique used to smooth images by reducing the jagged stepping effect caused by diagonal lines and square pixels. Different levels of anti-aliasing have different effects on performance.

RAMDAC

The Random Access Memory Digital to Analogue Converter takes the image data and converts it to a format that your screen can use. A faster RAMDAC means that the graphics card can support higher output resolutions. Some cards have multiple RAMDACs allowing that card to support multiple displays.

TV-out

Some graphics cards provide the option to connect a television via either a composite (RCA) or S-Video connector.

DVI

Some graphics cards include a connector for DVI monitors, handy because a lot of LCD screens support DVI. DVI offers better image quality than the standard VGA connector.

Dual-head

Dual-head is a term used when two monitors are used side by side, stretching your desktop across both.

SLI (Scalable Link Interface.)

With SLI you can couple two graphics cards in your computer, enabling each card to take half the rendering thereby doubling the performance.

When considering your graphics card, it pays to think about how much you need your computer to process your graphics output. Using a high end graphics card with a high pixels per clock rating, large memory, fast processor and other features means that you can run the latest games efficiently, or work in intensive graphics development.

Different Models

While there are many vendors of graphics cards, there are actually only two major manufacturers of chips for graphics cards. Nearly every graphics card on the market features a chip manufactured by either ATI or Nvidia. Cards using the same graphics chip will perform roughly the same as each other. However, even though they use the same chip, some feature slightly higher clock speeds, as well as manufacturer guaranteed overclocking-an even higher clock speed than that specified. Other factors that will influence your decision should include the amount of memory a card has (128MB, 256MB, 512MB) and its additional features, such as TV-Out and dual-screen support.

Use the search facilities at Myshopping.com.au to compare the features, prices and vendors of graphics cards.

Random Lines of Great Art - Automatic Drawing

When you are drawing an elephant and your son tells you it's a UFO, you seriously have trouble with your drawing. Avantgarde experimentation aside, when you can't portray what you're envisioning properly, or your drawings come out like a three year old drew them, you might consider trying another hobby wherein you'd be more competent. But drawing confusing pieces of art which look prima facie juvenile has been adopted by some of the greatest artists of the past generations.

Automatic drawing was used by the surrealists like Andre Masson as a means to express their subconscious thoughts. They may look like childish scribbles on the surface but there is great method behind it. By allowing 'chance accidents' to take over the creation process and by freeing the hand to more or less travel as it will, it frees the artwork from a lot of conscious control. Thus the drawing would be in part, a creation of the subconscious, portraying something that would otherwise be repressed. People who were into spiritualism like psychics were also fond of automatic drawing, frequently claiming that they were under the control of spirits.

These drawings would feature art that appear disjointed, random or lacking any cohesive form. These were said to be creations of a rationality beyond rationality. However even artists such as Masson would argue that automatic drawing was not completely automatic as the artist had to exert certain conscious intervention to make the artwork. Acceptable on a visual level or even slightly comprehensible. Masson believed that his breed of automatic drawing combined processes of conscious and unconscious activity. Even artists such as Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Jean Arp at one point in time used automatic drawing to create works of art.

Though 'drawing like a three year old' has been used to great effect by the great masters, it also helps to learn the right tricks of the trade! If you'd like to draw like an ace instead, you can visit: http://lifehackery.com/2008/06/25/art-design/

Camera Surveillance

We all agree that in the modern world we need added security measures. Whether it is company protecting its property and products or the common man looking to keep his house secure; all are looking for good and reliable surveillance equipment. There are many companies that our manufacturing surveillance CCTV hardware and software. This industry is growing and has immense potential because of present circumstances in the society.

It has been seen that with each passing day several new surveillance tools are being developed be it for people or organizations or law enforcement. The police is using surveillance equipment to ensure that law and order prevails in the society while citizens are using surveillance equipment to keep an eye on their valuables and to protect themselves from intruders. Banks and public building are using surveillance equipment and camera that go unnoticed by many. Many surveillance equipment are so designed to blend in with their surroundings while doing the task of recording all activities in the surrounding areas. Certain surveillance cameras are so small that they can not be seen and are virtually undetectable.

There are different types of surveillance cameras and some of them are: nanny camera, regular camera, hidden camera, digital camera and pinhole camera. Though these surveillance cameras may have many other uses, they are usually used for security purpose so that people are safe and secure. Many times police are known to use surveillance cameras when it comes to recording a crime like blackmail or extortion. The police also use these cameras for gathering evidence against criminals.

TV Remote Controls

Today sitting on a couch, we can flip through hundreds of T.V. channels, tune the T.V. to suit our requirements and perform a host of other operations without moving an inch. The T.V. remote control has become an indispensable gadget.

The first T.V. remote, called Lazy Bones, was made in 1950 by the Zenith Corporation. It had a wire attached to it, which connected it to a motor inside the T.V. By pressing the buttons on the remote, viewers could move the motor in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction to move up or down channels. But the remote wire caused plenty of accidents, with people constantly tripping over them.

Subsequent developments led to the manufacture of the wireless remote, which used ultrasonic sound, and then the modern T.V. remote, which uses infrared light to send signals to the T.V. The low-frequency infrared light is invisible to the human eye and can only be detected by the T.V. receiver.

The appearance of T.V. remote controls has also undergone many developments. From the bulky awkward boxes of the 50s, remotes evolved into the familiar peanut and the slim rectangular shapes with round or rectangle-shaped buttons. In 2006, remotes have become even more high-tech, with streamlined, easy-to-hold shapes and backlit LCD screens that display exhaustive menus of options. In fact, the new T.V. remote is more like a hand-held computer than a remote control device.

Intelligent T.V. remotes are in vogue today. These remote controls can interconnect appliances like your television and your computer; they even have digital program guides and activity control features that let them automatically switch on the T.V. when you put on the DVD player. With such smart T.V. remote controls, you can wield great power from your couch.

Digital Camera - How to Choose One

More and more people today are choosing digital cameras over film cameras because of the many advantages that they offer. Some of these advantages include the ability to view your pictures right after you take them, and having the choice of whether or not you want to keep them. You can also record videos with the touch of a button with many models, and store much more photos on a memory card compare to a roll of film.

Though with newer and better features on digital cameras coming out every year, sometimes it can be confusing finding which features are most important to you, and which features you might not even use.

Below you will find a few things that our product specialists recommend our customers to look for before buying a digital camera.

Megapixels (MP): Generally the higher the megapixel count is the higher the picture quality will be. Keep in mind that the difference in picture quality isn't noticeable on a normal sized 4x6 print. You will usually only be able to see the difference when a picture is blown up to a much larger size, such as a poster.

Image Stabilization (IS): If you want a digital camera that won't take blurry pictures due to shaky hands or moving objects, this is definitely a feature you should look for. Manufacturers of digital cameras with image stabilization technology will either place stabilizing hardware in the camera or will increase camera sensitivity and shutter speed (which takes the picture faster) to prevent pictures from coming out blurry due to movement.

Face Recognition: Many digital cameras are coming out with face recognition technology that finds the faces in a frame, and auto-focuses on those areas. This makes it so that the faces in your pictures come out clear and less blurred.

LCD Screen Size: If the LCD screen size is too small, it can be difficult for you to see what is in the frame while you take the picture. Also, it might make it difficult for you to review the photo after you take the picture. Because of this, make sure you are comfortable with the screen size on the camera before making your purchase.

Optical Zoom: Most digital cameras today have at least a 3x optical zoom, which is fine for your day-to-day shots. But if you plan on taking pictures of distant objects (such as a animal in a tree) you should consider a camera that features a higher optical zoom. Note the difference between optical zoom and digital zoom, as optical zoom is the amount by which the lens adjusts while digital zoom is a mere magnification of the already present image.

Portability and Comfort: It is important to make sure that the camera fits comfortably in your hand. Also, if you want a camera that you can easily take around with you so you never miss out on a great picture, you should consider the slimmer types of digital cameras so they can fit nicely into a pocket or purse.

Shooting and Scene Modes: There are many types of shooting modes on digital cameras today, with almost all of them having the automatic mode. You may want a cam that has shooting modes such as the continuous/burst mode, which will take a series of pictures as you hold down the shutter button. In addition to shooting modes, you should consider the scene modes a digital camera has. The types of scene modes available include portrait mode, landscape mode, night scene mode, etc. These scene modes will give you the best picture settings for the situation it is made for.

Battery: The type of batteries a digital camera takes can range from AA Alkaline to Li-Ion rechargeable batteries. Make sure to think about the kind of batteries a camera takes before purchasing. Some people prefer a digital camera with rechargeable battery pack, while others may prefer a camera that uses disposable batteries. The main advantage of a rechargeable battery pack is that you don't have constantly buy new batteries for your camera, you just need to recharge it every once in a while. The only disadvantage to this type of battery is that if it runs out, say during a wedding, you won't be able to easily go to a local store and buy more. Of course, there is always an option to buying more than one rechargeable battery if you want the best of both worlds.

Included Accessories: If you plan on editing the pictures you take, you will probably want a digital camera that comes with picture-editing software. Other accessories might include things such as Batteries, Battery Charger, USB Wire (to connect to a computer), Cases, Memory Cards, AV Cables, etc.

Additional Items: Most digital cameras come with a small amount of built-in memory or a low capacity memory card, so buying a memory card that has enough space for your pictures and videos is almost a necessity. Also, you might want to get a case for your new camera so that you protect it from possible damage.

Definitions:

Megapixels: A unit equal to one million pixels. The higher the resolution is the more pixels in an image, and therefore the greater the image quality.

Face Recognition: A camera with face recognition technology finds faces in a frame, then the camera adjusts the focus and the exposure on those faces giving the clearest possible portrait.

Optical Zoom: Magnifying an image with an adjustment of the lens without reducing the quality or resolution.

Digital Zoom: Magnifying the center of an image by enlarging the already present information (from the picture) resulting in a loss of resolution.

Shooting Modes/Scene Modes: Preset image settings made for certain types of conditions available on camcorders and digital cameras.

Li-Ion Battery: A high-capacity rechargeable battery used in portable electronic devices such as cell phones, notebook computers, PDAs and digital cameras.

AV Cable: Audio and Video Cable, which transfers the audio and video information from one electronic device to another.

Image Stabilization: Technology that reduces shakiness in motion pictures or blur in still pictures in Camcorders and Cameras.

USB (Universal Serial Bus): Connection port on a computer that is universally compatible with many types of electronic devices.

Built-in Memory: Memory an electronic device has within it to save certain types of data without the need of a memory card.
